Who
can participate in the Star Magic Affiliate Program?
Anyone
who is interested and has a Web site with "child-safe" content. You will
need to download banners and create links to Star Magic, so basic Web design
knowledge is required.
Star
Magic will provide copy-and-paste HTML codes.
What
will my commission be?
Star
Magic has two main commission structures. For sites that are considered
commercial Web sites,
Star
Magic pays 15% commission. For sites considered to be personal Web
sites, Star Magic pays
10%
commission . It is at Star Magic's sole discretion as to whether
a Web site is considered a personal
or
a commercial Web site. In general, sites with their own domain names in
the format www.domainname.com are considered commercial Web sites.
Sites operating as a sub-directory of a domain name (e.g. members.aol.com/xyz...)
are considered personal Web sites.
I
haven't launched my site yet. Can I apply?
No,
we have to see your Web site in order to approve it for the Star Magic
Affiliate Program.
Do
you accept Web sites outside the US?
At
this time we do not take orders on our web site to be shipped internationally
and therefore
do
not accept applications from Web sites outside the US. Check back with
us in late 1999.
I
am under 18. Can I participate in Star Magic Affiliate Program?
You
must be 18 years of age or older to participate in the Star Magic Affiliate
Program.
How
do you track my commission?
If
you are approved as our affiliate, you will receive a unique code.
You will use this unique code in URLs linking to Star Magic and we will
track your commission based on this code. For more details on creating
links to Star Magic, go to our Coding Links page.
Do
affiliates get paid for repeat visits?
Affiliates
get paid for every sale generated through their link to Star Magic. However,
if a customer doesn't use your link on a repeat visit, you will not be
credited for the sale.
How
often will I receive my reports?
You
will receive your monthly e-mail reports and quarterly summary reports
shortly after each reporting period. Your reports will include number of
click-ins, sales, revenue and commission generated. Your links have to
generate at least one click-in to receive this report. Star Magic does
NOT provide online reports.
How
often will I be paid?
We
will send you a check for your commission and shortly after the end
of each calendar quarter.
How
can I increase my sales?
There
are a number of ways to improve the performance of your links to Star Magic.
As an affiliate, you will automatically receive the Affiliate Program Newsletter
with helpful hints and ideas. In addition, you can subscribe to the Star
Magic Newsletter that is sent monthly. It includes the latest news from
Star Magic
as
well as announcements of special sales and product additions.

When
I click on my link to Star Magic, the Star Magic site comes up, but I don't
see my unique code in the URL anymore. Do you still track my commission?
Yes,
we do. If you click on your properly coded link to Star Magic, you are
automatically redirected and your unique code "disappears" from the URL.
It's normal and we still track all the transactions made during this browser
session regardless of number of pages you visited.
Can
I link to a product category page, or a specific product page?
Yes,
you can link to a product category page such as Lava Lamps, Astronomy,
Tarot, Toys, etc.
You
can also link to a specific product page. Linking to a product page is
great for limited time special promotions, hot toys, or sales. However,
we discourage you from permanently linking to a specific product
page
because if the product is out of stock, or is discontinued, we no longer
display that product page,
so

Can
I display Star Magic's "search box" on my page?
Yes,
Star Magic's search box is available. Please go to Coding
Links page for details.
Can
I, as your affiliate, download images from Star Magic's Web site?
Yes,
you can download product images and other artwork from our Web site and
display them on your site. However, we do not allow changes to these images
without our prior approval.
Can
I, as your affiliate, download Star Magic banners from other sites on the
Internet?
No,
please use only approved artwork and banners appearing on our artwork
and banner page.
This agreement contains the complete terms and conditions that apply to an individual's or entity's participation in the Star Magic Affiliate Program (the "Program"). As used in this Agreement, "Affiliate" means the applicant.
TERM
- The term of this agreement shall commence on the date which an approved link to Star Magics' site (the "Link") is placed on Affiliate's site and expire when terminated by either party with three days written or Emailed notice.
- Upon termination, Affiliate agrees to remove the Link from its site.
- Star Magic will supply Affiliate with artwork and text that can be placed on Affiliate's site and act as a link to Star Magics' site.
- Star Magic will compensate Affiliate for each Affiliate-Generated Purchase. An "Affiliate-Generated Purchase" shall be defined as a purchase made during a user session in which the first URL requested on the Star Magic site contains the unique code assigned to the affiliate. (For instance, links to the home page of starmagic.com are coded as: http://www.starmagic.com/store.cgi?XXXXXXXX, where "XXXXXXXX" is the unique code assigned to Affiliate.)
- "Purchase Amount" is defined as the gross amount of an Affiliate-Generated Purchase less shipping charges, gift-wrapping charges, sales tax, and coupons.
- For sites deemed by Star Magic to be commercial websites, Star Magic will remit 15% of the Purchase Amount of Affiliate-Generated Purchases to Affiliate. In general, sites with their own domain names in the format www.domainname.com, -.org, -.edu, and -.net are considered commercial websites.
- For sites deemed by Star Magic to be personal websites, Star magic will remit 10% of the Purchase Amount . In general, sites operating as a sub-directory of a domain name (e.g. members.aol.com/xyz...) shall be deemed by Star Magic to be personal websites. The determination as to whether a site is a commercial or personal website is at the sole discretion of Star Magic.
- Quantities for Affiliate-Generated Purchases shall be solely determined by the log file reports of Star Magic.
- On a quarterly basis, Star Magic will provide Affiliates who generated at least one visit during the quarter with a report. This report will include the number of click-ins and Affiliate-generated purchases. This report will serve as the basis for the remittance described above. Payments will be made on a quarterly basis (every three months) within 30 days of April 1st, July 1st, October 1st and December 31st. If your commission for any quarter is less than $50, the total amount will be added to the next quarter.
- Affiliate will place a graphical, textual, or search link to Star Magic on the Affiliate site in a manner consistent with artwork and/or text provided by Star Magic.
- Affiliate will code all links to Star Magic in the manner specified by Star Magic in the affiliate acceptance letter and Coding Links page.
- Posting, mailing or distributing Star Magic coupons, gift certificates or other discount mechanisms in any way without prior permission from Star Magic is grounds for immediate termination of this agreement.
- At any time and in our sole discretion, Star Magic may modify any of the terms and conditions contained in this Agreement by emailing a revised agreement to you. If a modification is unacceptable to you, your only recourse is to terminate your participation in the Program. Your continued participation in the Program following receipt of a revised agreement constitutes your acceptance of the new agreement.
- This
Agreement will be governed by the laws of the United States and the state
of New York. Any action relating to this Agreement must be brought in the
federal or state courts located in New York City, New York, and you irrevocably
consent to the jurisdiction of such courts.

If you need a non-standard size banner or a banner promoting different items, you can create such a banner and email it to us for approval. Below are some helpful hints that will help you better promote StarMagic and increase sales from your site.
1. Find
the right place for your banner.
Throwing
your banner on the bottom of your front page with some other affiliate
links probably won't bring you much luck or revenue. It is more effective
to place your affiliate links on appropriate pages (e.g. shopping or parenting
pages). Make sure that StarMagic links are everywhere that your visitors
may be looking for them and in places where they will appreciate them.
2. Choose
the right Banner.
Once you
have decided where you would like to place your banner, choose the
right banner according to the content of the page (for example, you should
use "Lava Lamp" banner on a Lava Lamp page). StarMagic offers a few different
banners (check back soon for more), which can be downloaded at http://www.starmagic.com
Pick the
one that is best for your site. All of these banners were carefully selected
after testing them on portal sites. We recommend that you rotate more than
one banner and change them on a regular basis.
3. Add
copy to your listing.
Not all
of the banners and logos are self-explanatory. Add some brief copy describing
the advantage of shopping with StarMagic and consider describing some of
your own shopping experiences at StarMagic. Do the homework for your users--it
will pay off.
4. Something
for your home page.
As we mentioned
earlier, it's better to place StarMagic links on appropriate pages. However,
if you have something special for your visitors, it may deserve to be on
your index page. For example, a limited time offer, seasonal items, "hot"
or "hard-to-get" toys may warrant "front page news." StarMagic runs offers
like that all the time. Look for them on the StarMagic web site and in
the StarMagic Affiliate Newsletter, which will be sent to you every month.
Show your visitors that there is always something on your Web site that
is worth coming back to.
5. Be
creative!
Browse our
web site and come up with your own ideas. We are sure that you'll find
something on our site that will catch your eye. If time is a problem, then
order a StarMagic Gift Certificate!
6. Create
a store on your web site.
Using your
knowledge of your visitors' demographics, decide what products will best
fit your web site.
7. Use
e-newsletters to promote your site.
If you don't
have one already, consider developing your own web site newsletter to inform
your subscribers of updates to your web site. Let them know about StarMagic's
new items, sales or "hot" products. A great source for such information
is the StarMagic newsletter. It's free and you can sign up at www.starmagic.com.
You can use links with your unique code in the newsletter and have your
subscribers go directly to StarMagic and generate sales for you.
9. Test
it! Test it! Test it!
No matter
how much experience with e-commerce you have, you need to test your ads
over and over and over. Keep your eye on the banners you are using and
replace them if they don't perform well. Test different copies and ask
your visitors for feedback.
